I learnt English in Brazil, with Brazilian teachers. In general, we can say that the majority of schools and materials used in this context are American. Also, we tend to consume more American films, series and music.
I am saying this to explain my slight preference to the American accent. It always sounded more natural and familiar to my ears. And especially after studying for so many years and living in the USA, I also spoke with a more Americanized accent.
After living in other countries, meeting more British people, using more European materials as a teacher, (etc.) and eventually marrying an English man, I am afraid to say I am more used to the ("standard")British accent now.

foi difícil de entender a 2 de Londres, a de Scotland e a segunda da Australia. Os mais fáceis foram do Texas, da California e de Seatle. Assim como o sotaque italiano, frances e o russo ;)
Hi Marina! Lots of people think so too. What is mind-blowing is that there are many different British accents. If we think about the BBC and the Queen's accent they say it is POSH (the British version for fancy)
Your comment made me think... I wonder what within the British accent makes you more comfort to practice. I am guessing it is the 'RP accent' (Received pronunciation, the one considered as "the queen's accent" or "the BBC accent", as speakers of this accent tend to speak very clearly and enunciate a lot)
