Hello, hello!
Um causo
Eu fui para meu primeiro intercâmbio aos 25 anos. Embora eu tenha sonhado, pensado, idealizado, desejado e imaginado isso ativamente desde que tinha 15 anos.
Sim, foram DEZ anos me preparando psicologicamente para a experiência. E mais ou menos UM ano me preparando na prática (juntando dinheiro, indo à agência, organizando toda a documentação necessária, etc.).
Parte da preparação foi fazer algumas aulas de holandês. Quando eu já estava na Holanda, também fiz um curso—que não me serviu de nada, porque eu era iniciante e a única turma que existia na minha cidade era intermediária. Eu não entendia NADA na aula, errava todos os exercícios e me sentia uma ameba.
Morei numa cidade pequena—nem "cidade" era (olha ela aqui). E todas as terças eu ia à feira comprar peixe para minha família hospedeira. Apesar de basicamente t-o-d-o-s os holandeses falarem inglês, o senhor da banca do peixe não falava. Ele insistia no holandês e me ajudava a fazer meu pedido (de uma forma mais: “Se vira e fala, menina! Só vou te dar seu peixe quando você pedir em holandês! Passou da hora de você aprender!” — parte do meu diálogo interno, ele nunca disse isso).
Talvez tenha sido coincidência do universo, ou talvez foi porque somente no último dia em que fui à feira (eu embarcava de volta para o Brasil no dia seguinte) que eu tenha feito o pedido em holandês certinho, sem hesitar (muito), sem errar. E ele sorriu e respondeu em inglês. Foi a primeira e única vez que ele falou inglês comigo.
Gosto de imaginar que foi no dia em que eu consegui (que eu talvez falei com confiança) que ele me presenteou usando a língua da qual ele também não era confiante.
PS: Eu não aprendi conversar em holandês, mas conseguia falar palavras e frases soltas e entender bastaaaante coisa.

A lesson
Once again, I want to encourage you to USE English. It is OK if you are not sure you use it correctly, it is OK if it is not perfect, it is OK if it is difficult.
It is the point of practice!
Exercise: Today's Decision Challenge
Objective: Make a meaningful, simple decision today and reflect on it.
Instructions:
Think of a small choice: It could be anything—what to eat for lunch, how to spend a free hour, or which task to tackle first.
Write it down: Write one sentence explaining the choice: "Today, I decided to... because..."
Reflect: In a few more sentences, describe how you felt about making the choice. Was it difficult or easy? Why?
Optional follow-up: If you have time at the end of the day, jot down how this decision impacted your day. Did it lead to anything new?
