Um causo

Conheci meu marido no meu primeiro emprego oficial como professora fora do Brasil. Já moramos em vários países, mas ainda concordamos que Moscou foi a melhor cidade para comer fora. Durante o namoro, exploramos muitos restaurantes e culinárias diferentes.

Perto de casa, havia um restaurante chinês que parecia chique—com toalhas de tecido e taças de vinho à vista pela vitrine. Talvez porque eu associasse comida chinesa às clássicas caixinhas de papelão! Sempre mencionava o lugar quando passávamos por ali.

Um dia, finalmente fomos. Depois de uma rápida olhada no menu, decidi pedir o único prato vegetariano: “Vegetarian Tasty Fried Rice.” Perfeito!

Quando a comida chegou, J. olhou o prato e exclamou: “STOP! Don’t eat!” Ele logo percebeu cubos de presunto misturados no arroz. Chamamos o garçom e explicamos o erro, lembrando que havíamos confirmado várias vezes que o prato era vegetariano. Ele, no entanto, respondeu sorrindo: “No problem.”

Eu insistia: “Tem presunto!” e ele apenas repetia “Tasty.” Foi aí que entendemos—para eles, vegetariano significava ter vegetais, e “tasty”… presunto!
