Um causo
Não quero entrar na velha discussão sobre sotaque versus pronúncia hoje. Mas, às vezes, quando meus alunos falam inglês com erros (ou nuances) bem perceptíveis de brasileiros, brinco com bom humor: "Cuidado com esse inglês brasileiro!" É sempre no espírito de leveza, sem a intenção de alimentar a reflexão sobre sotaque ou pronúncia "errada".
Essa semana, uma aluna compartilhou uma experiência que me fez sorrir. Ela contou que interagiu em inglês com o pai da amiguinha da filha e se sentiu bem – confortável, confiante e orgulhosa por ter participado da conversa. Quando ela me contou que o homem é turco e que, às vezes, ele fala tão rápido que parece estar falando turco, não aguentei e ri alto!
Essa história me lembrou quando trabalhei na Rússia. Eu não falava o idioma dos meus alunos, e eles não falavam português. Um dia, em meio a um momento difícil (como muitos eram), acabei falando sem muita paciência para um grupo de adolescentes "Speak English!" – porque, na minha cabeça, eles estavam conversando em russo. Para minha surpresa vergonha eles estavam falando inglês!
Sotaque, pronúncia, gramática, palavras inventadas, a forma como nos comunicamos, o listening e a compreensão do ouvinte, a flexibilidade (ou a falta dela) – tudo isso compõe nossa comunicação. Mas há algo que, para mim, se destaca acima de qualquer regra: a vontade de participar, de interagir, de estar presente na conversa. Hoje, ouso dizer que é essa vontade que realmente faz toda a diferença.

Remember: Watching is passive, but speaking is active.
