Na edição anterior: English from Brasil # 24 | Nativos falam rápido demais?
Hello, hello!
Um causo
No meu primeiro ano longe do Brasil eu precisei treinar a segurar minhas mãos.

What do you have an accent in a foreign language?
Here is an interesting video to help you practice English and think about accents.
Below, there is a set of comprehension questions and an exercise to help you summarise the main idea of the video (possible answers will be shared next week).
What is discussed in the video?
Why might a Spaniard pronounce "Spain" as "eh-Spain"?
Describe the difference in pronunciation of the word "Paris" in English and French.
How does the way stress is placed on words differ between English and French?
What does it mean for a language to be syllable-timed, and which languages mentioned in the video have this pattern?
What the video talks about?
Word Bank: accent / stress / native / sounds / rules / syllable / foreign / pronounceable / language
The video explains why people often speak with a different ______ when using a ______ language. The first reason is that different ______ are used in different languages. For example, the sound of "p" in French is not the same as in English. Sometimes, people follow the ______ of their own language to make words more ______. For example, Spanish speakers might say "eh-Spain" because "sp" at the start of a word doesn’t exist in Spanish.
Another reason is ______. In English, words often have a primary and secondary ______, while in French, the emphasis is usually on the final ______ of a word. This makes it hard for some speakers to switch between the rhythm and stress patterns of their ______ language and English.
🧠 I highly recommend you use the text above to practice pronunciation. I made this text in a way that will help you talk about the video which is a great exercise!
A question
"What small gestures or traditions from your culture do you hold on to, even when living in a different country?”

English from Brasil # 24 | Enola Holmes - movie trailer
True or False
False – Enola needs to find her mother, not her father.
False – Enola is Sherlock Holmes’ sister, not his daughter.
True – Enola does not wear a hat or gloves, as shown in the trailer.
True – Enola needs to hide from her brothers.
True – Enola can't embroider, which is mentioned as part of her unconventional upbringing.
Summary (Fill in the Blanks)
The Enola Holmes trailer introduces us to Enola, the younger sister of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. Raised by her mother, Enola had an unconventional upbringing—she was taught to observe, listen, and fight rather than behave like a typical well-bred lady. One day, her mother suddenly disappears, leaving no clues behind. Enola sets off to find her, determined to solve the mystery herself. Along the way, she encounters her brothers, Mycroft and Sherlock, who try to mold her into a more “proper” young woman, but Enola resists and decides to follow her own path. The trailer hints at adventure, danger, and Enola’s quest to uncover her mother’s true intentions, all while staying one step ahead of her brothers.
